2018-2019 Year of Kindness

Parent Council decided to focus their attention on Kindness inspired by content that was explored in articles such as the following

Studies confirm that kindness is a natural antidote for a variety of ailments because it has the ability to :

- increase peer acceptance
- reduce anti-social and bullying behaviour
- nurture inclusive and safe communities
- lower stress
- reduce anxiety and depression
- boost happiness, self-esteem and optimism
- improve social, emotional and mental health
- improve concentration and outcomes
- enhance physical well-being
- boost feelings of gratitude

In collaboration with the teachers at school we are :

- Buying books on kindness for the school library
- Have all the children at school make a kindness poster between home and school
- Creating a kindness calendar - with acts of kindness for the children to take part in at school and home
- Create cards from the posters
- Have the classes play kindness tag.  For example one kindergarten class has made hot chocolate and gave them to each member of a grade 8 class.
