November Principal's Update

November Principal's Update
Posted on 11/22/2018
Dear Bondarians,

It's hard to believe we are already into November.  We have had a couple of staffing changes within the beginning of the month, with Valerie Seeley moving to Manor Park PS to work with a new team, and Erika Schneider accepting her first full time contract within the OCDSB.  We will miss both of them, and wish them well in their new schools.

Thank you to all of our families that joined us for our Remembrance Day Ceremonies.  Several classes presented with themes of peace, and being thankful.  Our MC’s, Khaled & Vanessa for our Primary/Junior Assembly and Kiaraa & Jarjan for our Intermediate Assembly, did a fabulous job as did the band.  Thank you to our students and staff, lead by Lorie Hamiliton, Michele Viau, Rachel Blunt and Colin Williamson, for a very moving compilation of poems, and music.

Last week we sent home student progress reports on November 8th, 2018.  The fall report is a good indicator for parents with children in Grade 1 - 6, about how their child is progressing and can identify where a student may need additional help. For each subject, teachers will check whether the students are: (1) Progressing With Difficulty, (2) Progressing Well, or (3) Progressing Very Well.  To learn more about Assessment, Evaluation and Reporting, check out the OCDSB’s elementary parent guide. We are currently setting up for interviews with families. Just a reminder that the interview dates are November 22nd in the evening and November 23rd in the morning. In addition, while you are in the school visiting with your child(ren)'s teachers on Thursday and Friday, please stop by the primary hall (past the elevator on the left) to view the finalists in the Kindness Poster Contest. As a school, we are focusing on creating a kinder community. The students have all created posters and the best, as voted by the students, are displayed in the primary hall. Please take a moment before or after your interview time to help us decide on the best posters. There are ballots and pencils on a desk outside of room 107. Please vote for your favourite poster in each division then place the ballot in the box outside 107. We hope to make a calendar, posters and notecards to help spread our message that being kind matters.
Thank you, Deb Woods, Principal
