Friday, April 3 Update
Posted on 04/03/2020

Dear Bondarians,

Today marks the end of the first two weeks of school closure. During this time, our Bondar staff have reached out to all families through electronic communication or telephone calls, and provided support in making use of the Ministry of Education Learn at Home resources (also available en Français) and the OCDSB resources. Teachers have also provided additional resources through various platforms, such as SeeSaw, GoogleClassroom, email, etc.

Many of our teachers have reached out to parents via telephone, and are following privacy regulations to block their personal telephone number when calling parents.  If you receive a ‘No Caller ID’ call, it may be your child’s teacher trying to call.

On Monday April 6th teachers will be inviting their students to engage further in various learning activities. Students in Kindergarten - Grade 6 will be provided with about one hour of learning activities per day, and students in Grade 7-8 will be provided with about 2 hours of learning activities per day. The activities will be shared online, but our goal will continue to be to provide learning activities that do not always require access to technology. If you have any questions about the learning activities provided, please reach out to your children(s)’  teacher(s)’ via email.

We know that all of our families are experiencing these challenging times in different ways, and as a result not all students will be able to fully utilize the offered learning activities. Please continue to prioritize your families’ well-being, and do not hesitate to reach out for support: we are in contact with Ottawa Public Health, the Education Foundation, and other community and social service agencies. We are here for you and your child(ren), and we would ask that you reach out if there is any way we can support your family. In addition, the Ottawa Network for Education (ONFE) which provides funding for our school breakfast program is working in collaboration with the City of Ottawa and Ottawa Public Health to provide families with School Breakfast Replacement Kits. Information on donating to this program can be accessed here.  Details on accessing this program will be provided shortly.

Keeping students engaged and connected is an important goal, and we would like to invite our families to take part in Bondar Virtual Spirit Days, Daily DPA Challenges, and Daily Acts of Kindness (see attachment) starting on Monday. Please feel free to share pictures of your family taking part in these Spirit Days and DPA Challenges, either through Twitter @BondarBlazers or via email.

On a final note -

We wanted to highlight information provided through our English Language Learning Department as an opportunity for our Arabic speaking families. Tonight at 7PM Ottawa Public Health & Together We Can Ottawa are hosting a live Webinar in Arabic on Facebook called "Covid-19 : What You Need to Know?" (Information + a live Q&A with physicians and health care professionals).

We wish you a safe and restful weekend with your family.  If you have questions please feel free to email us at robertabondarps@ocdsb.ca  and we will do our best to respond in a timely manner.

Be well,
