Bondar Update - February 1 Return to School

Bondar Update - February 1 Return to School
Posted on 01/29/2021

Dear Bondarians:

Thank you for all of your support as we navigated these last four week of online learning together. We know that there are challenges associated with online education, and we appreciate all the work that went on ‘behind the scenes’ at home to ensure that your child(ren) had all they needed to continue their learning from home. A special word of thanks to all of our staff who led and supported students through this month of full-day online learning. Thank you to our custodial staff for all of their work during our remote learning period for the daily upkeep of our building.  Our gym floors have now been refinished and look brand new!

Next week on Monday, February 1, we look forward to welcoming students back to in-person learning at school. Our safety protocols will remain in place, with the addition of some new safety protocols as per the direction of Ottawa Public Health. Please review the following guidelines with your child(ren):

NEW safety protocols: - Students in Grades 1 - 3 are now required to wear a cloth mask at all times; - All students in Grades 1-8 must wear a mask at all times when on school property, both outside and inside.
ONGOING safety protocols: - Complete the COVID-19 daily screening tool for school before attending school/child care for each individual child separately. This screening tool is to help parents and guardians make decisions about whether their child can attend school;
- Only staff and students are allowed on school property. - Parents and guardians must remain at the sidewalk or the edge of path; - Students must line up in their assigned spots as soon as they arrive at school; - All students must use hand sanitizer when entering the building, and must wash hands when entering their classrooms; - Students in Grades 1-8 must wear face masks at all times while inside and outside the school.  - Masks must fully cover the nose, mouth and chin to be effective; - Bringing two masks is recommended: one for outdoor wear, and one for indoor wear; - All lunches must be litterless: any garbage (including food waste) must go back in the lunch bag; - Food may not be shared under any circumstances; - Sports equipment for recess may not be brought from home: any equipment will be provided by the school.

Return of Technology

Many families borrowed technology from the school during this learn-at-home period. Please return any borrowed Chromebooks with your child(ren) on Monday, February 1. Technology should be powered off, and placed in a bag with the charger, and the full name(s) and class(es) of the students. If there were any issues with the technology, please include that information on a note.

Winter Clothing & Indoor Shoes

Our arrival routines, gathering on the field in our school lines, will continue.  Students will need to wear their winter clothing, including boots, to navigate our winter weather properly.  Students will go outside at least twice a day (unless there is extremely cold weather) so should be dressed appropriately. Please make sure your child(ren) have indoor shoes at school, and are wearing outdoor boots when they arrive.

Please take some time this weekend to review these safety protocols with your child(ren). We also recommend that your child(ren) spend some time wearing their masks during the day, since many of us have fallen out of the habit of wearing our masks for long periods of time over the last six weeks.

Enjoy this winter weekend with your family: the entire Bondar staff looks forward to welcoming students back to school on Monday.
