Meet Our Multicultural Liaison Officer: Christine Malak

Our school’s Multicultural Liaison Officer (MLO) supports newcomer students and families with settlement services, navigating the school system, language interpretation, and more.

The Multicultural Liaison Officer (MLO) program provides support in multiple languages for students and families who are newcomers and refugees. The Multicultural Liaison Officer works with school staff to welcome newcomer families and connect them with important services, resources, and supports within our school and in the local community.

Christine Malak is the Multicultural Liaison Officer at our school. Christine speaks Arabic and English, and can help you access support in other languages.

Christine is here to support families with:

  • Settlement services

  •  Navigating the school system

  •  Language and cultural interpretation

  •  Accessing community services

  •  Filling out school forms

  •  Parent-teacher interviews

  •  Getting involved at school, and more!

Bio:

MLO Christine MalakChristine has been with OCISO since 2019. Christine loves supporting her clients and helping them understand the Canadian school system. 

Before joining OCISO, Christine worked as an Educational assistant at OCDSB for 6 years. Christine has a Bachelor degree in business management and a postgraduate diploma in social work.

In their free time, Christine enjoys reading, drawing, and biking. Christine believes that “it's not what you achieve; it's what you overcome. That's what defines your career.”
